Winter’s rapid approach leads to a good deal of preparation and inconvenience for everyone. Aside from the land-related hassles the season brings, it’s also responsible for an incidence known as “cold stunning” of marine life.

Cold stunning occurs when autumn cold fronts move through and chill coastal water temperatures more quickly than usual, causing cold-blooded sea turtles to go into hypothermic shock. When this happens, sea turtles’ respiration and heart rates slow to dangerously low levels and their immune function becomes compromised.

Join us and our Board Certified Cardiologist, Sophy Jesty, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology) for an evening of learning.  Dr. Jesty and her 10 years experience in companion animal cardiology will present up to date information the diagnosis and treatment of Boxer Cardiomyopathy (heart disease), which commonly affects this loyal breed of dog.

Charleston Veterinary Referral Center had many goals when we opened our doors 4 ½ years ago.  The most obvious was to provide the highest level of medical and surgical care, in an environment that put a large emphasis on client experience.  Additional goals included providing education to area veterinarians, veterinary technicians (veterinary nurses) and the pet owning public.  We also wanted to ensure we gave back to the community in a variety of ways.  One of those ways was working with local shelters and rescue groups, to help pets in need when financial resources would not allow for emergency or specialty care.  To further our commitment to help these animals in need, CVRC has recently entered into a corporate partnership with Pet Helpers
