Laura Maston, DVM

Emergency Medicine

At the age of four, Dr. Maston knew early on that her calling was to help animals.  Her stuffed toys' broken legs were repaired with popsicle sticks and paper towels, and her shelves were lined with Little Golden Books filled with stories of dogs and cats.

The daughter of a Navy pilot, Laura had the opportunity to live all over the country growing up, spending the most time in East Tennessee.  It was here that Laura began to volunteer at a local animal shelter after school and started work with a general practice veterinarian cleaning kennels.  Her skills and passion grew into a job at an emergency clinic that would take her all the way through the end of her veterinary school education.

Following graduation from veterinary school in 2011, Laura spent a year in Stillwater, OK as a small animal rotating intern.  With a strong interest in surgery, she pursued a specialty internship concentrating in small animal soft tissue and orthopedic surgery in Norwalk, CT the following year.  Emergency medicine, however, continued to call her name and in lieu of further surgical training, Laura accepted a position as an associate emergency veterinarian in Connecticut, where she has practiced for the last four years.  Her interests include wounds and peri-operative stabilization and management in the critical patient.

Happy to escape the New England winters, Dr. Maston was welcomed to the CVRC family in early 2017.  Having traveled to Charleston and nearby Kiawah Island for almost two decades, it was an easy decision to make a permanent move closer to family.  Laura is accompanied by her poodle mix Pepper Jack, and two cats – Bacon and Pancetta.

Dr. Maston enjoys walking along the shoreline in search of sea urchins and interesting pieces of drift wood.  In her spare time, she is an avid terrarium builder and baker.  Having run several half marathons in 2016, she is excited to train for her first full marathon soon.   When she is not working, she continues to travel with many trips to the happiest place on Earth – Disneyworld – and dreams of going to Norway one day (not just the Epcot variety).
