Sharon Clare, PhD, DVM, DACVIM (Internal Medicine)

Internal Medicine

Dr. Clare received a PhD in biochemistry at the University of South Carolina and then graduated with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2005 from North Carolina State University. She completed a rotating Small Animal Medicine and Surgery internship at The Ohio State University prior to working for the Small Animal Emergency Service at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at NCSU. After three years as an emergency clinician, she moved to Madison, WI where she completed a three-year residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin. After her residency, she worked at UW as a clinical Internal Medicine faculty member prior to moving to Virginia in 2013. Subsequently, Dr. Clare has served as a staff internal medicine specialist at several hospitals in Virgina and NC. 

Dr. Clare has a special interest in the emergency aspects of internal medicine diseases, and she enjoys the challenge of diagnosis and management of chronic gastrointestinal disease. When she is not at the hospital, Dr. Clare is an avid reader of fiction for pleasure, and she enjoys spending time outside with her furry family members.
