Karrie Clark, LVT, CCRP
Karrie became interested in veterinary medicine at a fairly young age when she was “boat-schooled” on her father’s sailboat during her middle school years. Life at this time included sailing around the Bahamas and enjoying the marine environment through scuba diving, fishing and studying the marine life.
Karrie came to Charleston in 2012 as a transfer student and enrolled at The College of Charleston (CofC). In May 2014, earned a bachelor's degree in Marine Biology with plans to pursue a veterinary career with marine animals. While attending classes at CofC, she became involved with the Pre-Vet Club, where she met other students that worked at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC). In March 2014 she applied to CVRC as a veterinary assistant beginning her veterinary career.
During her first year at CVRC she worked as an emergency assistant and found she enjoyed the nursing aspect of veterinary care. During that time, she also accepted a position in the Rehabilitation Department as the lead rehab assistant. The excitement and rewards of seeing patients recuperate helped her recognize the benefits that physical rehabilitation provides, and the role it plays in veterinary medicine.
This motivated Karrie to enroll at the local AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program at Trident Technical College in Moncks Corner, SC while continuing to work at CVRC. During her last semester of vet tech school, she decided to pursue a formal Rehabilitation Certification Program offered through the University of Tennessee. Karrie graduated with an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology in 2018 and completed her CCRP certification later that year.
She currently divides her time between Emergency/Critical Care Medicine and Rehabilitation with interests in pain management and developing cage-side rehab for Hospitalized and post-operative patients. Karrie is working towards advancing her career in Veterinary Rehabilitation and Pain management.
In her spare time, Karrie enjoys boating on the waterways of Charleston, doing yoga, crafting and watching Sports (Go Clemson Tigers & Atlanta Braves!). She lives in Charleston with her Fiancé Joey, beloved rescue dog Tallie and boisterous Boykin Spaniel Bodie.
